Shi Yongtang is a nationally recognized senior craftsman and an outstanding young and middle-aged ceramic artist. He is a member of the Jiangsu Ceramics Association and the China Arts and Crafts Society. Born in Yixing, the hometown of pottery, in 1969, Shi developed a passion for clay sculpting from an early age. He was deeply influenced by the renowned ceramic artist and senior craftsman, Xu Yuanming, who was known for the distinctive Xu style represented by Xu Hantang and Xu Xiutang. Shi strives for mastery in his craftsmanship, with meticulous attention to detail, precise lines, well-proportioned forms, and an imposing presence in his creations. His works demonstrate a standardized and accurate expression.
Under the guidance of the Chinese arts and crafts master, Wang Yinxian, Shi ventured into flower pots and vessels, leveraging his solid foundation to showcase his skillful techniques. His flower pots and vessels exhibit ingenious designs, exquisite craftsmanship, and exceptional beauty, earning him recognition and admiration from collectors and enthusiasts of Zisha pottery. His works have been exhibited and awarded both domestically and internationally. Shi is currently entering a mature and peak stage of his artistic career.
In October 2015, he was honored with the Silver Award at the inaugural "Jingzhou Cup" Handicraft Pottery Competition, which directly promoted his rank to craftsman without examination.
